Christ-like correction, ‘reproving betimes with sharpness’
- Failure to CORRECT is failure to PROTECT!
- Doctrine and Covenants 121:43-44 states — “No power of influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, but by persuasion, long-suffering, gentleness, meekness, and loved unfeigned …. reproving betimes with sharpness when moved upon by the Holy Spirit, and then showing forth an increase of love afterwards toward him whom thou has reproved …”
- Christ-like reproof is characterized as follows: 1) always assume good intentions on the part of the person being counseled 2) approach the person immediately, without delay 3) correct in private 4) describe the situation in terms of how YOU felt.
