Why should we study the words of Isaiah?
2 Nephi 25:1-8 — Why should we study the prophecies of Isaiah?
Reasons we should study Isaiah:
- The Lord Himself has commanded us to do so. (3 Nephi 20:11, 3 Nephi 23:1, and Mormon 8:23)
- To gain an understanding of the House of Israel. (3 Nephi 23:2)
- Isaiah speaks to the Gentiles. (3 Nephi 23:2)
- All that he prophesied has been or will be fulfilled, and we can know of it. (3 Nephi 23:3, 2 Nephi 25:7-8)
- He persuades us to believe in Jesus Christ. (1 Nephi 19:23)
- He actually saw the Lord. (2 Nephi 11:2, Isaiah 6:1)
- His words are for our profit and for our learning. (1 Nephi 19:23)
- We can liken his words to us. (2 Nephi 11:2, 8)
- His message to us is one of joy and delight. (2 Nephi:2 & 8, 2 Nephi 25:5)
- To know concerning the manner of prophesying among the Jews. (2 Nephi 25:1)
- To know of the judgments of God. (2 Nephi 25:3)
- To gain the spirit of prophecy and understanding. (Alma 5:45-46, Alma 17:2-4, 2 Nephi 25:4)
- Covenants of the House of Israel are fulfilled in the words of Isaiah. (1 Nephi 15:20, 3 Nephi 20:11-12)
- We are forced to raise our level of spirituality to understand the words of Isaiah. (Isaiah 6:9-10, 2 Nephi 15:3 & 8, 2 Nephi 25:4, Alma 12:9-11, Alma 17:2-4, Doctrine and Covenants 76:10)
