Operation On Target letter from Bronco Mendenhall, BYU football head coach
March 15, 2011
Dear Boy Scouts of America,
Congratulations on reaching the top of this beautiful mountain and joining the ranks of countless others who have made the trek before you. As you stand together with your On Target and scouting brothers, I commend you for reaching your goal, one you will not quickly forget.
Like any great accomplishment or goal that you are striving for, the preparation and work you have invested in this feat have proved most rewarding. You have worked together as a group, learning leadership, cooperation and communication skills that will benefit you long after you climb down from this mountain. You have joined a brotherhood, one that will unify you forever.
As brothers in the BYU football program, players and coaches alike lean on one another for strength and support. A few years ago we started the “Band of Brothers” program. Each player is assigned a brother on the team. The intent of the program is to provide each player with a teammate they can rely on for support and guidance. With the demands on the field and varying academic, social and spiritual needs, each set of brothers can provide strength to one another to achieve excellence.
Each of us can be “brothers” to those around us, whether they are family members, peers or leaders. Always remember to be a faithful example to those around you, willing to offer support and love.
As you continue on your journey through life, please remember the time that was taken to reach this summit. The literal obstacles you have overcome to get to this peak are similar to the unseen obstacles you will encounter as you progress through life.
I wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors and may God bless you.
Sincerely,
Bronco Mendenhall
BYU Football Head Coach
