Maternal arrests
Maternal arrests:
• 22 cases of maternal arrest studied
• 10 out of the 22 died, 11 left with severe neurologic deficit, only 1 survived without damage
• 8 arrested after lumbar epidural catheter placement for labor, 7 of those had inadvertent subarachnoid blocks, with major delays in ventilation and resuscitation
• 5 arrested after spinals for Cesarean section, with the cause being high spinal or profound hypotension
• 7 cases were due to massive blood loss
