STIMULATOR message for the week of June 27, 1972

Message from President Eugene C. Ludwig, dated June 27, 1972

THE NEW ZEALAND SOUTH MISSION WELCOMES NEW MISSION PRESIDENT

In the Church News this past week appeared the following picture and news release in connection with the appointment of President and Sister Sant:

Merlin W. Sant, president of the Los Angeles California Stake, has been called by the First Presidency to preside over the New Zealand South Mission with headquarters in Wellington, New Zealand.  He succeeds President Eugene C. Ludwig.

President Sant, a retired general contractor, was born in Franklin, Idaho on August 26, 1904 to Walter R. and Abigail Wilson Sant.  He married Edna West of Los Angeles on June 5, 1926, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt lake Temple.  They have one son.  President Sant served a mission to the Netherlands, and he has served in various priesthood capacities, including bishop of both the LaBrea and Arlington Wards, and in the stake presidency for nine years, including four yeas as president.

Sister Sant was born in Salt Lake City, May 28, 1905, a daughter of Joseph A. and Lois Hunt West.  She is presently on the stake Relief Society Board.  She served on both Primary and YWMIA stake boards, and also serves as ward chorister.  She attended the University of California at Los Angeles.

We want the transition from our leadership to theirs to be the smoothest ever.  We do not want to see a slackening of the effectiveness of the work.  We do not want to see anyone let down.  We want everything in excellent condition and running at full speed.  The greatest compliment you can pay to us is to sustain fully your new leader.  Pray for him, accept him, learn to love him.  His way will be the Lord’s way.

Let’s enjoy our last few weeks together and serve the Lord with all our might.  Our faith is in you.

Sincerely yours,

President Eugene C. Ludwig
