STIMULATOR message for the week of January 11, 1972

Message from President Eugene C. Ludwig, dated January 11, 1972

“YOU CAN NOT AFFORD TO DO LESS THAN YOUR BEST”

Dear Fellow Missionaries,

Elder Spencer W. Kimball, an Apostle of the Lord, in one of his General Conference talks, said: “No one in the Church will ever go far astray who ties himself securely to the General Authorities whom the Lord has placed in His Church.”  May I share with you some of the statements made by these special witnesses of the Lord?  Ponder them in your hearts, determine their value, and apply them in your missionary work.

The following statements were made by Elder Gordon B. Hinckley when he talked to a group of missionaries in the New Zealand North Mission:
• “Brethren, you are important.  Qualify yourselves.”
• “You can do this work; you have the capacity.”
• “A man is idle when he does less that he is capable of.”
• “Have clean thoughts and actions.  Read Proverbs chapter 7!”
• “Aren’t you thankful you are in New Zealand? The Lord sends you where He wants you to go.  Past growth is but a shadow.  We shall see tremendous growth.”
• “He that teaches by the Spirit, and he that listens by the Spirit understand one another.  Both are edified and rejoice together.”
• “Conversion comes when heart talks to heart.”
• “You have been called by revelation, and the eternal welfare of thousands of people rests on your shoulders.”

Here are some comments by other General Authorities:
• “Your future has its roots right here in the mission field.  Continue on the upward climb.” — Howard W. Hunter
• “We must learn one lesson our time here in the mission field — we must like to do what we should do.” — Howard W. Hunter
• “To be a good missionary we must have a desire and be teachable.” — Howard W. Hunter
• “I am sure you young missionaries are laying the foundation of your life’s work, and I don’t think you will attain any greater success after you depart from your mission than the success you had while you labored here.” — Delbert L. Stapley
• ” Wherever you are, you are the Church!” — Delbert L. Stapley
• “Convert people thoroughly.  Refer to Doctrine and Covenants 20:37 often.” — Mark E. Petersen
• “As you study, think of the person you are going to teach.  Be sure you teach solid, unadulterated truth.  Teach orthodox doctrine from the Standard Works.” — Mark E. Petersen
• “Progress comes not by some magic word, not by government edict, but from the thoughts, the toil, the tears, and the triumphs of individuals who accept the challenge of raw materials and by the grace of God-given talents produce results which satisfy the needs of men.” — Hugh B. Brown
• “Dedicated missionary service returns a dividend of eternal joy that extends throughout life and into eternity.” — Thomas S. Monson

May we all, here in the New Zealand South Mission, experience true joy throughout life and into eternity.

Sincerely yours,
President Eugene C. Ludwig

“Many times a day I realize how much my own life is built upon the labors of my fellowmen.” — Albert Einstein
