The Sabbath Day — Taranaki Zone Meeting presentation
The Sabbath Day — Thursday, June 25, 2015 — Taranaki Zone Meeting, by Elder Michael Taylor
- The Sabbath Day — A Prophetic Priority1/ Four recent ‘prophetic priorities’ shared by Elder Quentin L. Cook:
- Improving of Sabbath Day observance
- More fully living the Law of the Fast
- Strengthening our faith in the Savior
- Strengthening the priesthood holders throughout the church
2/ Items mentioned by Elder Cook that can help us improve our Sacrament meeting experience:
- Attending Sacrament meeting should be a “special spiritual experience” every week.
________________________________________________________________________
- In large part, our Sacrament experience depends on US!
________________________________________________________________________
- For many, Sabbath day observance has become routine, methodical. No more!
________________________________________________________________________
- A renewed emphasis on reverence, before, during, and after the meeting.
________________________________________________________________________
- Those entering the chapel should be warmly greeted and reminded about reverence.
________________________________________________________________________
- Leaders should limit announcements, messages, business.
________________________________________________________________________
- Our meetings must be well-prepared and should run smoothly and with dignity.
________________________________________________________________________
- No aspect should appear frantic, hurried, rushed, or disorganized.
________________________________________________________________________
- Sacrament meeting topics for speakers will now be planned by the ward councils!
________________________________________________________________________
- Speakers to be invited WEEKS in advance, meetings planned at least 1 month ahead.
________________________________________________________________________
- The Savior should be referred to in every talk. He is the focus of all that we do.
________________________________________________________________________
- Many speakers now just review a conference talk. They are resources. Do your own preparations, seek your own inspiration!
________________________________________________________________________
- This renewed emphasis on the Sabbath day must be a RETRENCHMENT!
________________________________________________________________________
- Our observance is a ‘sign’ between us and God What ‘sign’ are we delivering to God?
________________________________________________________________________
- Observing the Sabbath is not making a list of “do’s and don’ts”. It is about our attitude, frame of mind, spiritual course and direction, a reflection of our love for the Lord.
