Missionary Conference — Sunday, January 1, 2017
Mission Conference, Sunday, January 1, 2017
- Sister Snow:
- The Book of Mormon is the keystone, and it can be read on different levels.
- The technical level tells us that Lehi lived in his own house. The sons didn’t mention the home when they listed their assets.
- The killing of Laban was similar to an event in Exodus 21:13 — the person was delivered into their hands.
- The promised land was prepared for Nephi to flee to.
- Chiasmus in Book of Mormon, see Matthew 6:24 and Alma 36.
- President Snow:
- The church stands for falls based on the reality of the First Vision.
- Some say, “I like your church, but I can’t get past that vision of Joseph Smith”.
- How can I know that Joseph was a prophet? Do what he did. Kneel and ask.
- Sister Bertasso:
- How have you changed during your time in the MTC? See 2 Nephi 4:34 and Isaiah 55:8-9.
- President Bertasso:
- Preach repentance and baptize converts. The Lord has prepared souls for you.
- The Salt and the Savor could be talking about new members and investigators. See D&C 101:40 and 103:9.
- The Lord will tell you what to say and where to go.
- Look for those in the late teens and twenties.
- Set two baptismal dates – their own and the dates for their ancestors in the temple.
- Retention is > 80% for those new members who get to the temple.
- Sister Burgess:
- Share your testimonies with your families, see PMG page 198.
- Naaman was washed and healed because a young Jewish woman bore her testimony.
- Abinadi’s testimony changed Alma, Mosiah 16:9-15.
- Nephi and Lehi, Helaman 5:9 – righteous desire, quiet influence of Holy Ghost, gradual growth (line upon line), testimony growing and sharing (D&C 84:62)
- President Burgess:
- If I had the wish of my heart for you, it would be:
- That you would understand who you are
- That you would know what your missionary purpose is
- President Monson has said that the strongest of Heavenly Father’s children are here now.
- That you would understand that you are partners with the general authorities (D&C 29:7)
- That you would measure your success not by baptisms but by your COMMITMENT! See PMG pages 10 & 11.
- That you would understand that everything that needs to happen in the conversion process MUST happen in your own lives also!
- That you would know that one of the greatest blessings that can be given in this life is to be a disciple of Christ.
- That you would develop an attitude of doing your best always
- That you would continually repent and change
- That you would be determined to serve with a broken heart and a contrite spirit
- That you would know that all that is unfair or unjust can be made right through the atonement of Christ.
- If I had the wish of my heart for you, it would be:
