Baptismal talk delivered at the baptism of Holly Stone, by Sister Mihaere

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

It is such an honor to speak to you all today at Holly’s baptism. Sister Freeman and I had the privilege of meeting her in our first week in Hawera, back when she was our neighbor. Holly, it has been so wonderful to be a part of your gospel learning and to watch how much you have grown over the six months I served in Hawera and I know that you have grown in your knowledge of the gospel during the time I’ve been away from the area. I am so happy and proud of you for the decision you have made to be baptized today.

Baptism, as you know, is an important step in coming closer to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.  Baptism is a means of cleansing, to wash away all of your past sins and to start fresh as a disciple of Christ. As you enter the waters of baptism today, Holly, you will be making covenants or promises and we hear them each week during sacrament.  The covenants are to take upon us the name of Christ, to always remember Him and keep His commandments. As we keep these promises Heavenly Father promises that we will always have His Spirit to be with us and that we will be cleansed of sin.

One of my favorite scriptures is Moroni 8:25 “ And the first fruits of repentance is baptism; and baptism cometh by faith unto the fulfilling the commandments; and the fulfilling the commandments bringeth remission of sins.”  Holly, I know that you have faith in Jesus Christ, I know that as you are baptized today your faith will continue to grow and you will be that guiding example for Savannah . Holly, I want you to know that I know this Church is true, I know that Heavenly Father knows you personally, He loves you, Savannah and your family so very much!  I know that as you receive the Holy Ghost that you will feel more of our Heavenly Father’s love for you . I love you all and say this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
