The Law of the Garbage Truck
One day I hopped into a taxi and headed for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a car bolted out of a parking space right in front of us. The taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by inches. The driver of the other car yelled at us in outrage. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the obnoxious driver. He did not respond in anger or retaliation. I asked, “Why did you react so calmly? That guy almost smashed your car and nearly sent us to the hospital.” The taxi driver then taught me the “Law of the Garbage Truck”. He said, “Many people are like garbage trucks, full of garbage, frustration, anger, and disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they’ll try to dump it on me. I never take it personally. I smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. I never accept other people’s garbage nor would I spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. Successful, happy people do not let garbage, nor garbage trucks, control their own lives.” So…Love the people who treat you well, pray for those who don’t. Life is 10% what you make it and 90% how you take it. May every day be “garbage-free”! Faith is not believing that God can, but knowing that God will! — Anonymous
