The Center of the Book of Mormon – center chapter and center verse
My calculations:
- As seen below on this page of my website, I independently determined the total number of chapters and verses in the Book of Mormon. There are 229 chapters in the Book of Mormon, which means that Alma 20 is the middle chapter of the Book of Mormon (114 chapters before it and 114 chapters after it). Alma chapter 20 has an even number of verses (30), so the middle two verses of the Book of Mormon, using chapters as the reference point, are verses 15 and 16 of Alma 20. Interestingly, the message in these two verses centers on the brethren of Ammon being just men and holy prophets of the true God.
- Calculating the middle verse of the Book of Mormon using only the total number of verses and not taking chapters into consideration gives a different result. There are a total of 6,604 verses in the Book of Mormon. Since there are an even number of verses, there is not an individual verse that represents the middle, but two verses represent the middle. Those two verses are Alma 27:23-24. There are 6,602 verses before them and 6,602 verses after them. How appropriate that those two verses focus on the sincere repentance of the Anti-Nephi-Lehies.
