—  Visual aids —  September 1978 —

In recent years we have been counseled, as members of the Church, not to use visual aids when we speak in sacrament meetings.  I recall one particular sacrament meeting talk given in our student ward at the University of Utah when all present wished that this counsel had been observed by one of our speakers.  A sweet sister was talking about testimonies, and she wanted to illustrate how Satan would love to squash our testimonies if given a chance.  She took a Hostess Twinkie out of a paper bag and squished it with her bare hand to emphasize her point.  She delivered the rest of her talk with Twinkie filling dripping and oozing from her hand onto the pulpit.  The visual impression was vivid, but the analogy a bit overdone.
