James’ arrival; faith precedes the miracle — 1989

The circumstances which brought our dear little boy, James, into our home continue to be a source of faith and joy for us.  Early in September of 1989, our attorney told us of a young girl who was soon to deliver and had chosen us as the family to receive the baby.  We were excited and very willing.  We waited expectantly until September 25, when we were told of the arrival of a healthy little boy.  Unfortunately, the birth-mother developed an infection and her hospital stay was prolonged several days.  During that time she became very attached to the baby and began to vacillate regarding the adoption plans.  We literally rode an emotional roller coaster for five days as our attorney gave us updates on the deliberations, one day being encouraged, the next day discouraged.  We prayed, we worried, we exercised faith, feeling strongly that our home was the place this little boy was meant to be. Our every waking moment was filled with prayer that we might receive this new little son.  Finally, we received a call to hurry to the hospital to pick up the baby.  We sped all the way, and wept with joy as our beautiful little boy was placed in Susan’s arms.  Annie and John were shocked to come home from school and find a new baby brother in our home.

From the very start, James was bright, active, and vigorous, sporting wonderful blue eyes, a light complexion, and light peach fuzz on his head.  He was a wonderful eater and sleeper, and we were so thrilled to have a baby without colic or reflux.  He was and is very loving, outgoing, and sweet.  He has been a continual source of joy and excitement in our lives, being by far our most active and free-spirited child.  His fun-loving personality was evident early in his life, and we’re always assured of excitement with James around.  We love and cherish this dear little son that Heavenly Father blessed us with.
