Bishopric challenges — 1988

I have learned that each week brings new challenges and experiences to bishops and their counselors.  Our great bishop told us of a sister in the ward who arrived for her temple recommend interview wearing a halter-top and obviously not wearing her garments.  An interesting conversation ensued when the bishop asked this woman the question, “Do you wear the authorized temple garment day and night?”  The bishop also told us of a couple who, during tithing settlement, essentially instructed the Bishop to teach their 16 year-old son of the importance and significance of tithing.  When asked what efforts they had made along those lines, they responded, “Oh, he wouldn’t listen to us.”  Experiences like these always cause some introspection, and usually recommitment to a basic gospel principle.
