My early testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — 1960’s
I recall no time in my life when I doubted or disbelieved the truthfulness of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I think I was blessed with a believing heart, and the message of the restoration has always rung true in my soul. Likewise, I cannot pinpoint to a certain date or occasion the time when I was able to definitively say that I knew the gospel to be true and Jesus Christ to be the divine Redeemer of mankind, notwithstanding the fact that I have had many spiritual confirmations of the veracity of the Church. My early testimony was grounded in the faith and devotion of my two wonderful parents, who were both steadfast and true to Christ and His prophets. I loved how I felt in my home, in our church, when we prayed together as a family. Like Enos in the Book of Mormon, I was taught “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” by my parents, and their very lives were testaments to “eternal life and the joy of the saints”. I stood on their shoulders until I gained by own personal witness of the Savior, of the prophetic call of Joseph Smith, and of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. What a blessing to have been born “…of goodly parents…”, as was Nephi. Activity in the Church, attendance at seminary during my high school years, my personal study of the Book of Mormon as a teenager, and affiliation with righteous friends all played a vital role in the building of my early testimony.
