A sweet experience with my oldest sister, Deanna — 1958

A SWEET EXPERIENCE WITH DEANNA — 1958 —

I have a vivid memory of a sweet experience with my sister Deanna.  I was about six years old at the time of this event.  Deanna was a wonderful older sister, and she set an excellent example for me during my early childhood.  Deanna would read bedtime stories to me every night when I was a little boy.  One particular night, I began to cry as she read to me.  She asked me what was wrong, and through my sobs I told her that I was sure I would never be able to fully please my Heavenly Father nor to be as good as He would expect me to be.  I was worried about being able to live forever with my family because I didn’t think I was good enough to have that privilege.  Deanna put down her book, enfolded me in her arms, and comforted me until the tears stopped flowing.  She was there at a time when I needed comfort and reassurance.

The fears I had seem childish and nonsensical as I record these memories, and I do not know what led to my having those fears, but I distinctly remember how very poignant and penetrating those thoughts were in my fragile 6-year old mind.  I am grateful indeed to have been blessed with wonderful parents who had instilled in my young mind the principles of the plan of salvation that led to these thoughts at such a young age.
