Woodbadge — 1994
I had another delightful and uplifting experience during our Varsity Scout Woodbadge course held at Camp Tracy in April 1994. Our course director was a close friend of mine and he was wonderful to work with. I was his assistant course director and also had the opportunity to be the Coach Counselor for the Buffalo squad. This proved to be the highlight of my experience, as the seven Buffaloes were an outstanding group, and I thoroughly enjoyed working closely with them. Two close friends of mine were members of my squad, and I really enjoyed getting to know them better. The Buffaloes were close from day one, and truly had a wonderful spirit during the whole course. The staff was terrific, and I learned so much from these great friends. We were close and united throughout. Several staff members, including the course director and myself, repeatedly commented on the sterling quality of participants on our course. Over and over, we heard of unsolicited acts of kindness, charity and love. Our director was absolutely smothered in praise and warmth by the course members. We had our share of minor glitches, but none of the discord and frustrations I experienced in other courses. Our closing ceremony was particularly touching with many tears, much emotion, and the bonds of lasting friendship evident. Susan and the children sacrificed greatly for me to participate and I love them so much for it. I know that added blessings come to us for our contribution to Woodbadge. The members of our staff were absolutely excellent, devoted and hardworking. This excellence became even more impressive as I heard them relate their past life experiences during our “Meaningful Experience”. We heard of drug use, crime, decadence, and then their absolutely remarkable conversion stories, with resultant lives of faith, devotion and dedication to the church and the Savior. It was heartwarming and faith-promoting.
