Steven’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor — May 2006
Our family enjoyed a sweet and memorable evening on Tuesday, May 23, 2006. We held an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for our wonderful son, Steven. Susan and I enjoyed making the preparations for this event, and the evening was a great success. Stewart helped us prepare a DVD presentation that highlighted Steven’s life through pictures. Tears filled my eyes as the pictures brought back memories of this sweet little boy that came to bless our home 15 years ago. How I love him! From his first day in our home, he has exhibited a peaceful, loving spirit, and he has always been so anxious and willing to hug and be hugged, to love and be loved. It was a joy to honor this good son.
We were delighted to have so many of our family come to the Court of Honor. Dayna and Dan came, along with ALL of their children and their spouses, as well as ALL of their grandchildren. Grandma and Grandpa Rudd came, as well as Annette with Debbie and Tiffany, and Barbara. Along with many members of our ward, we filled the Primary room to capacity.
Brother Todd Manwaring conducted the Court of Honor and gave a sweet tribute to Steven and our family. Stewart represented our family by sharing some tender memories and uplifting words. Brother Wayne Musgrave played a medley of patriotic songs on the piano.
Steven’s tender spirit was evident as he was awarded his Eagle badge. Tears ran down his cheeks as he hugged Susan and myself, and he wept openly as those in attendance gave him deserved applause. He also wept as he was escorted into the Eagle’s nest, joining those of us there who love him dearly. I wept as well as I held him in my arms.
This special evening was a fitting tribute to a very sweet boy. It was also one of the “parental pay-days” that come along occasionally to warm our hearts and buoy our spirits.
