Moving from Sandy to Provo  — 1994

The year 1994 presented some major challenges, and yet great opportunities, for our family.  We made the decision to move to Provo in order that I could be closer to my work.  It took us only a matter of days to sell our home in Sandy, and it was then with much emotion, difficulty, and considerable sorrow that we left Sandy and our dear friends in the Willow Creek area to move south.  We moved on December 31, 1993.  Our dear friends, Larry and Ann Lauer, were the first to officially greet us in Provo.  Larry was a CRNA that I worked with at Provo Surgical Center.  They brought us two loaves of warm bread as we were moving in that evening.

Susan and Anne had particularly hard adjustments, as they were the ones who gave up the most and made the greatest sacrifices in order for us to move.  We were able to find a comfortable rental home quite close to our building lot, and we received permission to attend the ward we would eventually live in, the Grandview 10th Ward, even though our rental home was not in that ward.  The children were also able to start attending their permanent school, Westridge Elementary.  These fortunate events made our transition easier, but not easy.  New doctors, new dentists, new music teachers, a new school, a new ward, living in a very small rental home, building a new home, and many other challenges made our first few weeks in Provo difficult and at times frustrating.  Despite the difficulties, we weathered the storm well and were delighted beyond measure when, on February 20, 1995, we were finally able to move into our new home at 1692 North 2000 West in Provo.

We were doubly fortunate in our new area due to the fact that our sweet Aunt Margaret lived in our new ward.  She is a wonderful person and relative, and she has been a blessing in our lives.
