Little James preaches a sermon — 1994

During a very enjoyable family trip to Bear Lake in July of 1994, a humorous incident occurred as we stopped at the Logan Temple to walk around the temple grounds.  We were visiting the temple on a Sunday, and we were all dressed in our Sunday clothes, trying our best to keep the Sabbath day holy.  We were all sitting under a shady tree admiring the beauty of the temple when a couple came strolling along the sidewalk past us, very casually dressed, and their appearance and manner of speaking suggested that they were probably not members of the Church of Jesus Christ.  The ever-observant James commented in a voice loud enough for this couple to hear, “Dad, those people don’t have their Sunday clothes on!”  The woman, somewhat taken aback at this comment, replied, “Oh, we’ve already changed.”  The man added, “Yeah, about twenty years ago!”

On that same trip, we really enjoyed visiting President Benson’s grave site in Whitney, Idaho.  We were amazed at the simplicity of the headstone; it simply read, “Ezra Taft Benson, Apostle of the Lord, Secretary of State”.  A sweet spirit was present at the site, and the headstone was surrounded by notes of love and admiration from the thousands of visitors that had visited that very ‘out-of-the-way’ cemetery.
