Glacier National Park — July 2001
Our family enjoyed a glorious summer vacation to Glacier National Park in late July of 2001. The beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife we saw were breathtaking and inspiring. We also visited Craters of the Moon National Monument, Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, and Jackson Hole. The RV park in which we stayed during our time at Glacier National Park was the best park that we have stayed in. As we stepped out of the Suburban in the RV park near Glacier, James spotted a recently-shed set of deer antlers and we quickly added those antlers to our vacation collections. We watched an entire group of snow-white mountain goats move along a mountain trail during one of our days in the park.
I kept track of the flora and fauna we saw during our trip. We saw the following birds: bald eagle, song sparrow, sandhill crane, gray jay, dark-eyed junco, osprey, Canadian goose, redhead duck with babies, crow, magpie, raven, mountain chickadee, Mallard duck, red-tailed hawk, turkey vulture, Barrow’s duck, golden-eyed duck, trumpeter swan, three-toed woodpecker, tree swallow, barn swallow, and cedar waxwing. We saw these mammals: coyote, pronghorn antelope, grizzly bear, black bear, elk, moose, mountain goat, Columbian ground squirrel, chipmunk, Uinta ground squirrel, mule deer, buffalo, prairie dog, and golden-mantled ground squirrel. We saw the following trees: Western red cedar, lodge pole pine, tamarack (Western larch), cottonwood, aspen, limber pine, Douglas fir, spruce, and hemlock.
