  • On the flight from Dallas to Guatemala City, you will be given a customs/emigration form to fill out.  There are some important parts of the form which you must fill out in a certain way.  Fill out the general information as you would any document, but be sure to list your ‘reason for visiting’ as ‘Tourist’.  As for destination, write Baracelo Hotel, La Reforma, Guatemala City.  When going through Customs in the airport, just state that you are a tourist.  Do not state that you are in Guatemala to help, treat, or visit children.  Be very familiar with the contents of the specific bag you are asked to take through Customs.  You might be asked to open and describe the contents of the bag.  Do not put your personal items in the bag.  For your evening meals and shopping, $200 should be sufficient.  Small, nearly new bills are preferable.  If you take large bills, you will get larger amounts of Guatemalan money back and will have to deal with money exchanges when we leave.  You can use a credit card, but there are substantial fees attached if you do.  Be sure to have some one dollar bills for use at the airport as we return.
