QUESTION: As of April 6, 2016, how many of our General Authorities have been granted “emeritus” status since 1978, the year in which the emeritus designation was first announced?  Who are some of the brethren that have been emeritus General Authorities the longest?  Who were some of the first brethren to be designated as emeritus General Authorities?
ANSWER: As of April 6, 2016, 89 General Authorities have been granted emeritus status.  Elders Eldred G. Smith, Robert L. Backman, and Hartman Rector are some of the brethren that have been emeritus General Authorities the longest.  Some of the first brethren to be designated as emeritus General Authorities were Elders James A. Cullimore, Henry D. Taylor, and S. Dilworth Young.
