Challenging questions — adopting a ‘defensive’ or ‘non-defensive’ stance

Wise counsel from Elder M. Russell Ballard

Counsel from Elder M. Russell Ballard, as we face challenging questions

“Too often members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints allow others to set the conversational agenda, and subjects such as the long-discontinued practice of polygamy become the focus of discussions.  Instead, whenever you are having a conversation about the Church, you should try to make this the point of focus — ‘We follow Jesus Christ.  We try to live as He taught. That’s the basis of our faith and our lives.’  This is the strongest non-defensive position you can take.  You don’t have to defend or justify anything when you are basing your position on the teaching of the Son of God, and the fact that you are doing your best to keep His commandments.”
