AARONIC PRIESTHOOD


The Aaronic Priesthood — D&C 13

  • The five great priesthood sections in the Doctrine and Covenants – 13, 20, 84, 107, 121

D&C 13 – The restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood

  • May 1829 –  Springtime in the United States, the dawning of a new day!
  • John the Baptist –  resurrected, glorified, the man who baptized Christ!  A living testimony of the power of the Atonement of Christ.
  • Acting under the authority of Peter, James, and John — lines of authority, God’s house is a house of order (D&C 132:8 and 20:63)
  • Promise of the Melchizedek Priesthood to come
  • Upon you my fellow-servants — we are all in this great work together, we all SERVE our Heavenly Father, I (John) am a servant just like you two (Joseph and Oliver)
  • In the name of Messiah — all we do is done in the ‘name of Jesus Christ’
  • Aaron — involved in matters of the Tabernacle, sacrifices, priesthood symbols and representations, the Ark of the Covenant, temporal matters
  • Ministering of angels — angels will attend and bless your priesthood work (D&C 84:88)
  • Repentance — Cry nothing but repentance unto this generation (D&C 6:9)
  • Baptism by immersion — we follow the example of Christ, One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism
  • Remission of sins — directly linked to the Atonement of the Savior
  • Offering unto the Lord — D&C 128:24, welding link between us and our ancestors
  • Righteousness — purity, holiness, cleanliness, wholesomeness, edifying, sanctifying

Purposes of the Aaronic Priesthood

  • Become converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ and live by its teachings.. 
  • Serve faithfully in priesthood callings and fulfill the responsibilities of priesthood offices.
  • Give meaningful service. 
  • Prepare and live worthily to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood and temple ordinances.
  • Prepare to serve an honorable full-time mission.
  • Obtain as much education as possible. 
  • Prepare to become a worthy husband and father. 
  • Give proper respect to women, girls, and children.
