  • RemarksJohn Boynton was disfellowshipped and removed from the Quorum of the Twelve on September 3, 1837. However, he remained an apostle until his excommunication.  He was a geologist and an inventor.  Following the apostasy and excommunication of John Boynton, he became a scientist and inventor, holding the patent on 36 original devices. He was one of the inventors of the torpedo.
