Bully Supreme — 1960

The ultimate bully — 1960

A certain boy in our neighborhood was the nemesis of all the elementary school-aged children on our block as I grew up in Reno.  He was three years older than my friends and I, and he was the ultimate example of a neighborhood bully.  I have several unpleasant memories involving this bully, but the most vivid and unpleasant deals with an episode which occurred on a snowy winter afternoon.  I was walking home from school alone, and this obnoxious boy snuck up behind me, threw me into some deep snow, and proceeded to wash my face and neck with snow, and to put snow down my front and my back.  This dastardly deed was unprovoked, and he laughed heartily as he left me whimpering in the snow.  I made my way home, wet and freezing, with an intense desire for revenge welling inside.  After relating the incident to my mother, I begged her, in all earnestness and seriousness, to go to the home of this evil person, haul him down to my father’s dental office, and instruct my father to pull out all of his teeth.  I pictured myself standing beside the dental chair, gleefully watching this rogue scream and cry as my father meted out a just and deserved revenge.  I don’t recall my mom’s exact response to my pleading, but her adult wisdom held sway, the boy’s oral anatomy remained intact, and my bruised ego eventually healed.
