Senior Couple journal — New Zealand Hamilton Mission

July 27, 2014 to August 2, 2014

Dear loved ones and friends,

Another warm greeting from New Zealand.  We love you all and pray that this email finds you prosperous and happy.

1/ Scripture joke of the week:  Did you know that some of the people in Book of Mormon times were extremely tiny?  Yes indeed. See below for the answer to this conundrum.

2/ Church history quiz of the week:  Only one brother in this dispensation has served as both First and Second Counselor to two different Church Presidents. Can you name this faithful apostle?

Quote of the week:  “It is better to prepare and prevent, than to repair and repent.”  — President Ezra Taft Benson.

Update for the week: Many weeks ago I shared our experience of visiting an historic lighthouse located on the western shores of New Zealand.  That story prompted this reply from my wonderful friend, Jill Askerlund, who now lives in North Dakota: “On a small two-lane road between Killdeer, North Dakota and Williston, North Dakota, there is a light house on the side of the road! I can’t express how odd it is to see this structure in the middle of farm land with barns, cattle and  oil rigs. The story of how this lighthouse ended up in the middle of North Dakota is fascinating. A man who was moving his business from the east coast to North Dakota wanted his wife to move “inland” with him. She said she would if she could take with her the light house by the seashore that she loved so much!  He did what he could to make that dream come true. He built her an exact replica of that same light house on the side of the road, not far from his office building and their home. What a wondrous love this man must have had for his wife, to give her a visual reminder of something she loved so much and had to leave behind to be with him.  A win, win situation!! ” Thanks so much for sharing this great story, Jill. Not much greater love hath any man than this, than that he would build a lighthouse in North Dakota for his wife. :o)

5/ Answer to the scripture joke:  In Helaman 1:24, it states that the people were gathered together in small bodies. :o)

6/ Answer to the Church history quiz:  Elder J. Reuben Clark, Jr. served as both First and Second Counselor to President Heber J. Grant, and he then served as both First and Second Counselor to President David O. McKay.
