Personal Life Journal — July 2023

  • July 5, 2023 — We had the opportunity today to take a wonderful couple with the last name of Lameko out to eat.  They are from New Zealand and are here in Provo being trained as YSA advisors.  They work closely with Charlie and Annette Rudd at the Auckland Missionary Training Center.  They were delightful and we enjoyed the spirit of New Zealand through this great couple.  David Rudd was able to join us as well as we ate dinner at Brick Oven Restaurant.
  • July 10, 2023 — What a joy to have a visit from James and Rebekah Clary, wonderful friends that we met as I served as bishop of the 19th YSA Ward many years ago.  They met in our ward and married, and they now have 4 beautiful children.  They are very active in their ward in the Louisville Kentucky area.  We are so proud of them and we greatly enjoyed our hour together, reminiscing.
  • July 13, 2023 — I had a repeat CT scan of the chest and lungs today, to follow up on the many nodules or cysts that were seen on previous studies.  The report came back that the lesions have all lessened in size, and were probably viral in nature.  There does not appear to be any cancerous lesions.  What a relief.
  • July 14 and 15, 2023 — We enjoyed two consecutive evenings with the Rudd family on these days.  The first evening was at the reception for Dallin and Baylee Peterson, the son and daughter-in-law of Doug and Kathy Peterson.  It was a wonderful event.  The next evening, we enjoyed the annual Rudd Family reunion at a water park in Riverdale.  A great time was had by all.  Mehki went with us and greatly enjoyed being around Josie Williams, his basketball hero.
  • July 16, 2023 — I had the privilege of speaking in Sacrament Meeting in the Grandview 21st Ward today.  I spoke with Brother Brent Moore, a great friend and member of the High Council.  Our assigned topic was The Sabbath Day, and I spoke about “The Ultimate Sabbath Day”, sharing the experience of the Savior healing the ‘bent over’ woman in a synagogue on a Sabbath Day.  The Lord blessed me incredibly both in the preparation for the talk and in the deliverance.  I used no notes, felt the Spirit guiding my thoughts and words, and was at peace after my talk.  Brother Moore’s talk was exceptional.
