Baptism talk given by Sister Susan Taylor — New Zealand Hamilton Mission — Hawera
‘Baptism and the Holy Ghost’ talk given by Sister Susan Taylor at the baptism of Jordana and Paige, Hawera, New Zealand, 2015
- Jordana and Paige, this is a special day!
- Remember it your whole life.
- After today – never the same again!
- Taking most important step.
- I remember my baptism day very well.
- May not remember the details.
- Remember how I felt. Memory has stayed.
- Baptized in the Tabernacle. Font in basement.
- Temple Square. Near Salt Lake Temple.
- Baptized by my older brother – new priest
- Confirmed by my oldest brother – new Elder
- Dad was able and worthy- but special with brothers.
- Don’t think I totally realized significance of baptism, as you may not.
- Did realize very important day. Something waited a long time for.
- Baptism is first saving ordinance of gospel.
- First step in journey to eternal life.
- You will enter the gate to get on the strait and narrow path to God.
- Through your baptism today and confirmation tomorrow – become member of Church of Jesus Christ
- By being baptized you show your willingness to follow the Savior’s example as He was baptized too.
- Jesus taught that we all need to be baptized.
- When you are baptized, make covenant to take upon you the name of Jesus Christ and to serve Him and be obedient.
- Remember Him always and symbolically have His name written in heart.
- Just like my missionary name badge, wear His name. You should wear his name.
- Although very important step, you are not all done.
- You have started on the path.
- Now, it is up to you to work hard and stay committed to the Savior and endure to the end.
- Not always easy.
- After confirmation tomorrow will have additional strength through gift of Holy Ghost
- Remembering your baptism and covenants you make will give strength even in times of trial.
- Live worthy – have guiding and comforting influence of Holy Ghost.
- Thru atonement of Jesus Christ, can be forgiven of things do wrong.
- Sacrament – can renew baptism covenant to take upon yourself His name. To always remember Him. and Keep His commandments.
- When you do this, feel the spirit of Holy Ghost with you and guiding you.
- If you feel like I did after my baptism, you will want to always feel clean and free from sin like you feel today. I wanted to be perfect.
- However, Our Heavenly Father knew we would make mistakes and gratefully through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, to be able to repent and do better when we fall short.
- Chocolate chips incident.
- Unfortunately, I didn’t keep my resolve.
- I was devastated that I was no longer spotless..
- Gratefully my parents helped me realize the principles of repentance and importance of striving to do what is right and of the sacrament.
- Now that you will have the gift of the Holy Ghost you will have the right to the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost to help you do right.
- Jordana and Paige, Heavenly Father is pleased with you.
- He is aware of what you are doing today.
- Jordana, He is grateful you have listened to teachings of your mother/grandmother and accepted baptism at your early age.
- Paige, Heavenly Father is grateful you have found the gospel & listened to the missionaries and followed example of friends at this stage of your life.
- Both of you know have a lifetime ahead of you to serve and follow our Savior Jesus Christ. If you will do so, life will be happy here and someday you will have eternal life.
