New Zealand Hamilton Mission, August 2014 — Insights, wisdom, and truths learned
Truths and thoughts from August 2014
- When visiting referrals, be sure to visit the other homes in the area, across the street and next door.
- Don’t get involved in legal issues.
- We will no longer be setting zone goals. Be accountable and responsible to yourself.
- Ask yourself often, “What does Heavenly Father want us to learn from this experience?” Don’t miss out on life experiences.
- Elder Holland has said that we can’t get a grasp on REVELATION if we have no message to give, and that ministering without revelation is vain. Our ministering should be dictated by the Spirit.
- Administration is dictated by written mandates. Handbooks at times can be a hindrance to revelation. Handbooks are merely springboards to ministering.
- The Atonement of our Savior affected lives BEFORE the Savior even came to earth as a mortal being. See Doctrine and Covenants 20:25-26, Moses 6:64-65, Ether 3:13, Mosiah 3:13, Mosiah 3:18, 2 Peter 3:9, 1 Kings 8:56, Abraham 3:17.
- Christ was perfect in his premortal life, so the law of justice accepted His atoning sacrifice even before He lived on earth in mortality.
- Zone Conference held on August 15, 2014 at the Higgins Road Chapel in Temple View, New Zealand.
- Elder David Thomson, Area Authority Seventy
- Teach people, not lessons. Plead with Heavenly Father to give you the inspiration to know the hearts of the people
- Prayer is the answer to every question. Doctrine and Covenants 128:13 contains a true gem regarding prayer: “For to him whom these keys are given [priesthood keys] there is no difficulty in obtaining a knowledge of facts in relation to the salvation of the children of men…”. Keys lead to facts and knowledge.
- The introduction to Doctrine and Covenants 75 contains a very interesting statement: “Certain elders, who had encountered difficulty in bringing men to an understanding of their message, desire to learn more in detail as to their immediate duties.” Any missionary of any age should be interested to know what the Lord, through His prophet, said concerning this matter. Verse 9 of that section states: “…proclaim the things which I have commanded them…”.
- The Holy Ghost likes places of peace, of quiet, of tranquility.
- Pray always, and ‘always’ means always!
- In Jacob 5:49, the Lord laments: “What could I have done more for my vineyard?” Each of us needs to ask that same question of ourselves very frequently.
- Oliver Cowdery stated that the early days of the Restoration “…were days never to be forgotten –“. All of you should feel the same way about your missions. It is up to you.
- Two sister missionaries prayed sincerely to the Lord and asked, “Who can we help? Who can we teach?” They were inspired to go to a nearby cemetery. No one was there, but they came across a turtle that had become stranded on its back. The heat was intense on that particular day and the turtle was in dire circumstances. The sisters turned the turtle back to its feet and it scurried away. The Lord whispered to them, “Thank you!” If the Lord cares that much about a turtle, how must he care for us!
- President Charles Rudd:
- Missionaries, listen to the whisperings of the Spirit during this meeting, and act on what you hear!
