- Remarks: President Grant succeeded President Joseph F. Smith as President of the Church in November of 1918, but he was not sustained in that position by the general membership of the Church until June 1919. This delay was due to the world-wide influenza epidemic which prevented the Saints meeting in a general conference until June. President Grant was the son of Jedediah Morgan Grant, also an apostle. Some considered President Grant to be a ‘son of the Prophet Joseph Smith’. Joseph F. Smith at one time announced that he looked upon Heber as being the actual seed of the Prophet Joseph Smith under the new and everlasting covenant, due to the fact that Heber’s mother was sealed to the Prophet for all eternity, and only married to my father [Jedediah M. Grant] for time.
This remark was called forth because of Joseph E. Taylor saying that the Lord would not forget the seed of the Prophet Joseph Smith, but that they would be remembered”. - Inspirational quote: “That which we persist in doing becomes easier for us to do—not that the nature of the thing is changed, but that our power to do is increased.”
