Hearing deficit —  1989

We had a significant scare in January of 1989 when a routine hearing check at school revealed a 40% hearing loss in Annie’s right ear.  A retest by Marsden Blanch confirmed the problem, and etiologies such as acoustic neuroma, intracranial tumor, and slow-virus infection began to be considered (and worried about).  This problem necessitated a CT scan of the head (with intravenous dye contrast) and several blood tests which were traumatic experiences in the life of our sensitive little girl, but she was very brave and submitted courageously to the procedures.  I was so proud of her.  Much to our relief, the tests were all normal, and we were left with a diagnosis of “unilateral hearing deficit of unknown etiology”.  This was another instance in our lives where sincere prayers were answered.
