“Your tongue shall be loosened…” —  1988

My patriarchal blessing states that at various times in my life my tongue would be loosened, enabling me to freely discuss and promulgate the principles of the gospel.  This blessing was granted to me at least twice in 1988. During the night of September 21, I had a marvelous dream.  I dreamed I was sitting on the stand at a Brigham Young University devotional, and Elder Thomas S. Monson was the speaker.  He delivered a wonderful message and then at the conclusion of his talk, he unexpectedly called on me to give the benediction.  I was very nervous as I began to pray, but soon the Spirit entered my soul and the words of the prayer flowed effortlessly from my mouth.  I poured out my heart in gratitude for the Savior, feeling His spirit and feeling my testimony burning in my soul.  It seemed as if I prayed for a long time, and it was indeed a prayer inspired by the Spirit.  I awoke with a vivid recollection of the experience, and have thought many times since how odd it was that I offered the best prayer of my life in my sleep.  Also, in September of 1988, I had the opportunity to give Anne a father’s blessing as she began her kindergarten year at Brookwood Elementary.  My tongue was again loosened and uplifting thoughts flowed freely as I expressed my love and gratitude to and for this sweet little girl, and blessed her with the ability to succeed in her schooling.  I truly felt Heavenly Father communicating with Anne, using me as a mouthpiece.  I don’t remember the specific things stated in the blessing, but the memory of the feelings during the experience will never dim.
