A wonderful dream —  1987

At the time of this writing, I unfortunately could not describe myself as a “visionary man”, as was Lehi, but on the night of December 3, 1987, I had a dream which left a wonderful impression in my mind and soul, and served as a testimony-building experience.  I dreamed I was engaged in a religious discussion with several non-members, none of whom I recognized.  Many theories and ideas were expressed concerning religion, and attention then was focused on me as one of the non-members said, “Taylor, you are a Mormon.  Tell us why your Church is so odd and strange.”  I conceded that some of our beliefs were so unique that they appeared outlandish to Christians in general, but that they were nonetheless true and sound doctrines.  “What’s this about life before birth?” I was asked.  I pointed out that although many Christian churches believe that life begins before conception or birth, we feel that we all existed as spirit children of God before living as mortals on earth, and that our actions and behavior in that sphere played a role in determining our earthly situations.  I testified of the truthfulness of this doctrine, and as I did so, the Spirit of God fell upon me mightily, and I FELT an initial tingling in my extremities, and then an overpowering feeling of  warmth and peace in my bosom.  Tears flowed from my eyes as I continued to bear witness, and someone in the room remarked, “This is a beautiful spiritual experience. ”  I awoke not long thereafter and was amazed at the vivid reality of the dream and the sensation of FEELING warmth, peace, and enlightenment of the Holy Ghost in a dream state.  I felt the same joy and expressed the same thanks as did Lehi, as recorded in 1 Nephi 1:15.
