PERSONAL LIFE JOURNAL — June 2019
- June 1, 2019 — What a glorious day. I have mentioned before that my sons and my nephews enjoy a wonderful tradition twice a year, that of having a family golf tournament. It has been a source of joy and camaraderie and spirited competition over the years. We played our “Spring Fling” at Sleepy Ridge golf links on this Saturday, and had such a great time. My recent scores (for the past several years) have been between 100 and 110. I go for the enjoyment of being with my sons and nephews. I really only golf twice a year, at these family outings. Lo and behold, something miraculous happened on this memorable Saturday. I actually played good golf. I shot an 87, with the winners (Gary and John) shooting an 80. I tied Ryan and Steven with my 87, and all (especially myself) were astounded. In fact, I shot a 40 on the back nine, and that beat the scores of all the other 7 golfers on the back nine. My drives were good, my iron play was solid, and I actually putted very well. I doubt I will ever again experience such a magical moment on a golf course, but I certainly enjoyed this grand occasion. I am so proud of John and his excellent golfing. John was not very good as a young man, but he has developed a wonderful, consistent game as an adult. Being in the golf industry helps, but he has developed his talents through hard work and consistent practice. His companion now, Brittney, is a professional-quality golfer, and that will only serve to motivate John further. James, Steven, and Mark are wonderful golfers in their own rights.
- June 2019 — I befriended a young woman at Riverwoods Surgical who was hired as a center core worker. Her name was McKelle and was a very sweet person. She had a very effervescent personality. She got married in the month of May. I contributed to a gift for her, and I received the following note from her two weeks after her marriage: “Dr. Taylor, Thank you so much for supporting me as I got married last month. Thank you for contributing to the group gift and for always asking me questions and being interested in my life outside of work. You are an incredibly kind person and I enjoy working with you. Thank you again. Matthew and I greatly appreciate it! Thank you, McKelle and Matthew ____.” The smallest effort in reaching out to others and taking an interest in their lives usually pays GREAT dividends!
