— General Conference — October 2008 —

General Conference time is my favorite time of the year, and October Conference of 2008 was exceptional.  Some of the thoughts that particularly struck me were the following:

  • Pres. Uchtdorf: Lift where you stand!
  • President Monson: Learn what you should learn, do what you should do, be what you should be!
  • Elder Scott looked into the camera and said to the priesthood brethren: “Consider that you and I are going to have a Personal Priesthood Interview for the next few minutes.”  These are the questions he asked:  1) Are your thoughts clean?  2) Do you elevate your mind?  3) Do you avoid stimulants or other addicting materials?  4) Do you control what enters your mind?  5)  Do you financially support your family?  6) Are you faithful to your wife?  7) Do you avoid engaging in intimate conversation with another woman?  8) Are you kind to your children?  9) Do you take the lead in family scriptures and prayer and Family Home Evening?  10) Do you tell your wife you love her?
  • President Monson asked us to pray that nations will open the doors to the preaching of the gospel which at present do not recognize our church.
  • Elder Anderson: I don’t know everything, but I know enough!
  • Elder Bednar: Occasionally pray and don’t ask for anything, only express gratitude and thanks and love.
  • President Monson: Send a note, give a hug, say I love you, and express thanks.
