“STIMULATOR” message for the week of July 20, 1971
Message from President Eugene C. Ludwig, dated July 20, 1971.
“ATTITUDES DETERMINE SUCCESS!” “600” in 1971
Dear missionaries,
Let’s look to the future and reach the baptismal performance that we are capable of reaching. Men have said, “if I were in his shoes, I could be successful.” Possibly that is true. Undoubtedly some people are in a better position to be successful than others, but their position has been acquired by a correct attitude. Attitudes do determine success, missionaries.
With the proper attitudes, small opportunities can be magnified and will result in larger opportunities. “All things are possible to them that believeth.” Attitudes determine one’s power to believe. God has given each of us the power to control our attitudes. Because of this you control your own success an future. Do you have sincere faith in your missionary calling? Do you believe in yourself? If you do not believe in yourself, how can you expect others to believe in you? Have confidence in yourself. You are as good as anyone else. Believe this positively and you can do anything you want to do, if you want to do it bad enough. A little more persistence, a little more effort, and what seemed a hopeless failure may turn to a glorious success.
There is no defeat except in no longer trying. There is no defeat save from within, no really insurmountable barrier, save our own inherent weakness of purpose.” We usually reflect a bad or negative attitude when situations, experiences, problems, conditions, etc. do not agree with us. The Lord speaking to Joseph Smith said, “…Know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good.” (Doctrine and Covenants 122:7). When we understand that experiences are for our good and benefit, then we can develop a positive attitude towards each experience, realizing that each experience carries a benefit to us in some way. “Therefore, let your heats be comforted, for all things shall work together for good to them that walk uprightly, and to the sanctification of the church.” Doctrine and Covenants 100:15).
We appreciate your support and loyalty.
Faithfully yours,
President and Sister Ludwig
