Not my best week — July 2001

The week of July 8-14, 2001 was not my most stellar week.   The stars must have been poorly aligned for me that week.  During this week we did enjoy three days at Bear Lake for the annual Rudd reunion, but some challenges presented themselves there as well.  Here is a compilation of the woes I faced that week:

  • A gravel truck flipped a rock onto my windshield, causing a huge crack.
  • I got severely sunburned at Bear Lake.
  • I made an errant pass during a football game and hit a baby on the side of the face with the ball.
  • I pulled my left groin muscle during the same football game.
  • The fuel pump went out on the Suburban while we were at Bear Lake, and it took us an evening and most of the next day to get it repaired.
  • We lost water pressure in our trailer during the Bear Lake trip.
  • I ran over a bird on the Bear Lake trip.
  • I offended the Young Men leaders of the 5th Ward due to a series of misunderstandings and misinterpretations.
  • The battery on Susan’s car died.
  • I rankled two surgeons at work by cancelling a case.

Every cloud has a silver lining, however, and I managed to learn a few lessons from each of the experiences chronicled above.
